The Notre Dame High School coaching staff has been a cohesive unit for more than two decades as offensive line coach Jeff Kraemer started with Rooney in 1980 and Joe NcNab arrived the following season to lead Notre Dame’s stifling defense. The Notre Dame Football program has had recent experience with out-of-town road trips. Last season, the football team traveled to Dallas to play in the Kirk Herbstreit National Kickoff Classic at the new Cowboys Stadium.
Coach Rooney grew up near Sacramento and played football at Santa Clara University, then became an assistant coach as Northern California prep power St. Francis of Mountain View. His mentor at St. Francis was Ron Calcagno, who won 233 games, the 17th most in state history in a 23-year career.
